Fashion photography is usually thought of as a genre of photography devoted to displaying clothing and other fashion items. Fashion photography is most often conducted for advertisements or fashion magazines such as Vogue, Vanity Fair, or Allure. Fashion photography has developed its own aesthetic in which the clothes and fashions are enhanced by the presence of exotic locations or accessories by the photographer.
At Cherie’s Studio modeling photography is a specialty of the fashion discipline in that all the same photographic techniques are used for both, however, the difference lies in the focus of attention. When making fashion photographs the photographer is trying to sell clothes or beauty products for a client or to highlight new styles.
Modeling photography is focused on showing off the abilities of aspiring models for the purpose of securing representation and work for them in the Fashion or Entertainment Industries. For that reason, clothing worn must be current, but not overstated or too trendy. The focus is always on the talent. Modeling photographs are packaged in a portfolio book for in-person presentations or for use on a portfolio website for promotion to agents, clients and magazines via the Internet.
